I am publishing this story with a lump in my throat.
Suffering from a lifelong writer's block, wanting every little detail of my stories to be perfect, I have never finished a story before.
I wrote this story while high and made a few edits afterwards to make it more coherent but I didn't spend too long trying for perfection to challenge myself to let go.
It's an Alice-in-wonderland/spirited away type story with a "there and back again" model where the main character is lost on the streets of London and out of tune with the world. She is drawn by a neon sign with a guy standing outside who leads her into a bar in an alternate reality. Within this bar, the character discovers peace, beauty, wonder, desire, love, chaos, suffering and darkness. She undergoes a spiritual transformation which gives her a renewed sense of self and direction.
The funny thing is that a year after writing this story while high, I found a bar in Dublin which was extremely similar to the bar I had imagined in my head. I was drunk when I found it and couldn't remember its location, so I spent another year trying to find it again. I managed to find it in a sober condition just before leaving Dublin. That was over a year ago, so I feel like it's time to post my story into this void, not neccesarily hoping for it to be read by a bunch of people but to release it from my control.
Also, I don't spend a lot of time drunk or high so these events were totally circumstancial...
