Captain Lyon fought for the Republic, until he joined the Remnant, a fragile defending the have-nots , exiled to the Welfare Reserve. The Remnant agrees on one thing; a change of rule is needed in the Republic. Some want the UK back; some want the Republic to burn. Others seek a royal heir, if he still lives. As the battle lines are drawn in his country and in his heart, Lyon must choose his allegiance.

It started with the grain of hate that festered in the hearts of both the fearful and the jealous, poisoning both innocent victims and vindictive narcissists. It was the septic toxin that crept through the veins of community and turned neighbour against neighbour based on nothing more than the etymology of a surname or the birth place of a grandparent. It was hateful and uncompromising, and took lives without mercy, just as it had throughout all of human history. What happened in 2017 wasn't the consequence of Brexit, or 7/7, or even 9/11. It wasn't the consequence of the miner's strikes or the Gulf War. It wasn't a result of the Holocaust, or the Crusades, or the fall of Rome. 2017 came about because people are tribal, and while that can lead to communities holding hands and standing for the greater good, it can also cause them to see people who are 'other' as something 'bad'. As something which needs to be destroyed. We're considered vermin now; rats to be captured and killed. Undesirables whose heads are covered by red bags marked with the Home Office logo as we're tossed into the back of black vans, never to be seen or heard from again. This is the new order, in the new world. This is 'Great' Britain, the country of my birth where my children, my husband, and I no longer belong. Welcome to the Disunited Republic of Little England.

The UK is due to leave the European Union (EU) on 31 January 2020, after Prime Minister Boris Johnson's Brexit deal was passed by MPs. For those not following every twist and turn, this guide covers the basics. What is the European Union? The EU is an economic and political union involving 28 European countries. It allows free trade and free movement of people, to live and work in whichever country they choose. The UK joined in 1973 (when it was known as the European Economic Community). If the UK leaves, it would be the first member state to withdraw from the EU. Why is the UK leaving? A public vote - or referendum - was held on Thursday 23 June 2016, to decide whether the UK should leave or remain. Leave won by 52% to 48%. The referendum turnout was very high at 72%, with more than 30 million people voting - 17.4 million people opting for Brexit. Why hasn't Brexit happened yet? Brexit was originally due to happen on 29 March 2019. That was two years after then Prime Minister Theresa May triggered Article 50 - the formal process to leave - and kicked off negotiations. Under Mrs May, the deadline was delayed twice after MPs rejected her Brexit deal - eventually pushing it to 31 October 2019. Despite negotiating a revised deal, Mr Johnson missed the latest deadline, after MPs failed to pass it into law. The EU then agreed to a further extension until 31 January 2020. Theresa May making her final speech outside Theresa May resigned after her Brexit deal was rejected three times Why did Parliament reject Theresa May's Brexit deal? The main sticking point for many Conservative MPs and the DUP (the government's ally in Parliament at the time) was the Irish backstop. The backstop was designed to ensure there would be no border posts or barriers between Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland after Brexit.

The first two songs are re-written lyrics of two famous songs (I do not have the rights to them). The third song is inspired by Emily Berry's 'Bad New Government' poem, which we were given at university for one of our seminar pieces. Although I have made this anthology public domain, I would appreciate it if no one used this last poem as their own. Rather, if you're inspired by it, I highly encourage you to check out Berry's poem :) All of them are critiques on the conservative governments of May and Johnson and Brexit.
