Bleeding out and desperate, Eddie stumbles into an elevator-and into the arms of Buck and Harry. When a security lockdown freezes the elevator between floors, the world shrinks down to the red glow of emergency lights and the steady, terrifying drip of blood.

Evan Buckley lives at home with his Mother, Margrette Buckley, and Father, Philip Buckley. They both are horrible, but Buck can't just move out, he has no where else to go. His Sister left 3 years ago, and hasn't heard fom her since, leaving him to fend for hisself. Buck applied to be a firefighter and he got the job, he works at the 118. Bobby, Hen, Chimney, and Eddie was all working there, then Buck came along. They all noticed how distant Buck is, he hardly muttered 2 words to them, but when something happens, he has no choise but to trust them.

Buck and Maddie had horrible abusive parents. That was the reason they ran away and changed their names, right? Wasn't that what they told everyone? Or is there more hidden under the surface they had yet to scratch at?

He gestured to the envelope in a 'go on' fashion, and that seemed to break Eddie out of whatever stupor he was in. With one last confused and concerned look at him Eddie reached down and scooped up the envelope taking out the papers and reading through their contents. "I don't understand." Eddie said after seemingly having read through the papers at least three times. "C'mon Eds," Buck huffed out a mirthless chuckle, "I know that you know what a deployment issue looks like."

Buck is 9 when his sister leaves him and his family alone for her boyfriend Doug when she turns 18. Still at age 9, Buck realizes he's getting even less and less attention from his parents causing him to increase his reckless ideas from skateboarding accidents to playing with fires. He's craving any type of attention from his parents even negative. Bobby Nash firefighter Captain of the 118 lost his family in a fire. His firehouse gets a call of a reported house fire and the only person saved is a small kid named Evan Buckley. Without any family willing to take him, and the police unable to locate his sister, Bobby gets clearance to give the child a roof over his head. He was drawn to the boy, and he knows he can take good care of him.

Everyone loves the Buckley siblings and wants to get to know them more.
