I should be in my room, I told myself. Or at least somewhere familiar.
.
.
Word reached the inner hall within moments.
"Sona has returned."
.
.
"Struggling won't break it."
"Then you don't know who you've tied," she shot back. "And that's your mistake."
.
.
"You think this is about safety?" she demanded. "This is about possession."
.
.
.
She held his gaze, "And what feels out of place about me?"
"Nothing," he said after a moment. "That's what makes it noticeable."
For the first time, she smiled-small, controlled.
"My name is Kirti."
.
.
.
"Since I'm clearly being discussed-I am Shri."
.
.
"He told me to pack my bags," Shri said. "Said I was late."
"I asked him why," Shri went on. "He said, 'Because if you don't leave now, you'll miss her.'"
