I never meant to keep the note. The one Gabriel Winters slipped into my copy of Holes when we were kids. The one with the terrible character rankings. The one that ended with: "your rankings are probably wrong." But I kept it anyway. Years later, we're no longer the children who traded notes beneath cherry blossom trees. Growing up has changed us in ways neither of us expected, but some things refuse to stay in the past. Because the problem with growing up beside someone is that eventually, you have to figure out what they mean to you. And some questions take years to answer. Some people leave fingerprints on every version of who you become. And no matter how much time passes, no matter how much changes, a part of them stays with you. After all, your story is never really over, is it?
