Chastity had a pretty normal life. Between friends, school, family and dealing with breakouts she certainly didn't have time for a boyfriend. That of course did nothing to stop the school creep from asking her out on a daily basis. She was finally tired of his games and in a last minute panic said she was dating her best friend, Chase. Soon the whole school knew and in an effort to save face they played along with it. Little do they know their good friend Poppy had tricks up her sleeve that could ruin any chances of them being together. Can the two best friends keep up the façade until they can "break up" or will they discover feelings that neither of them want to face? And by the time that comes, will it already be too late?

James Dawson, your average nerd, geek and every word for a high school loser, has a not-so-small crush on the head cheerleader who goes with the name Evelyn Edwards (who is unexpectedly sweet) but James has no chance with her (surprise surprise) since she already has a boyfriend also known as Jace King, Golden boy, blah blah. Seems like a pretty normal high school situation. Except that Jace King, has a secret (not in a good sense). A secret that can destroy Evelyn. Evelyn being the sweet person she is, and apparently sort of delusionally dumb (?), doesn't see it as she is head over six-inch heels with pom-poms in love with her Jacey. Now enters Alyssa Robinson, the badass, in the picture. She is suspicious about Jace. Being the best friend of Evelyn, she is hell bent on uncovering the secret before it harms her amigo. X marks the spot where the nerd and the badass join hands to save the cheerleader in (process of) distress. But (yes there's a 'but'), There is one condition. Jace is willing to spit out the truth if, James Dawson becomes the prom king. Pretty easy? Now mix some more secrets, strong feelings, betrayals, trust issues, major plot twists and an annoying ex. Not to mention the homework from school (huff). Welp, life isn't a fairytale now is it?
