A fog-choked coastal city. A Black homicide detective who refuses to blink. A killer staging baroque, blood-soaked tableaux that speak in a language of bells, salt, and misdirection. Detective Selene Ward follows a trail carved through church belfries, glasshouse gardens, storm tunnels, and shuttered galleries, reading the killer's ritual grammar while old-money gatekeepers tighten their grip on the narrative. As bodies become instruments and institutions become stages, Selene must cut through the city's curated myths to stop a murderer who believes terror is art-and who knows exactly how to make the powerful look away. Gritty, atmospheric, and unapologetically visceral, this neo-noir thriller delivers relentless momentum, razor-edged imagery, and a protagonist with the steadiness to face what others call unspeakable. ©️ Relle H

This poem seeks to capture the mesmerising effect of a campfire. Staring in silence is meditative, calming and transformative. When you consider the dual nature of fire; its potentially destructive power and its capabilities for supporting life, it is impossible not to feel awe.

A psalm of the Past. A frame of time when darkness strangles. Where death would be to have hope. It's the sojourn out of darkness into the light. From hell on earth, to salvation, to hope, to sanctification.

For year 12 English, I studied the movie called "Good night and good luck" directed by the infamous George Clooney. The movie revolves around the prominent issues in regards to the McCarthyism period of US history. It looks at the constant tension and battles between the Soviet Union and US during a time when the Cold War was just around the corner. While it did have serious implications, the movie takes a cinematic spin on this topic. With postmodernism techniques glittered in every scene and take, the movie heavily uses film noir through its use of black and white, the use of chiaroscuro lighting further accentutes the tonality that Clooney potrays as Edward Murrow steps out of the shadows to embody the stance against his main enemy: Senator Joseph McCarthy...

Chiaroscuro is a raw and unfiltered exploration of the mind-fractured, tangled, and desperately searching for meaning. In a world that demands coherence, this collection embraces disorder, weaving together thoughts that are both heavy and fleeting, violent and tender, detached yet deeply felt. Both a mirror and a descent, it delves into the paradoxical nature of being-where morality blurs, instincts clash with restraint, and what is hidden beneath the surface threatens to unravel. A distribution of light and shadow, Chiaroscuro does not seek perfection, but balance-a mind laid bare in all its rawness and intensity, both beautiful and unrefined, both chaotic and graceful.

Jason Tisse, is on a jet plane headed to to Europe, his first trip abroad. To relax he picks up an old cinema trade magazine and is shocked to find an article written by his film school mentor, Edgerton. It's a story so fantastic that Jason can't tell if the article is fact of fiction. It's whimsical tale which describes the origins of a magic Brownie Kodak camera, which strangely seems to be the very camera that Jason has stored in the overhead compartment right above his seat! Jason had planned to use the camera to document the works of his favorite painter, and when he does, the magic box of light will unleash all of the sex, violence and humor captured on canvas by the infamous artist, Caravaggio! In this excerpt from Gregory Earls' first novel, "Empire of Light," this short story is a COMPLETE short tale written by the mentor of our main character, Jason Tisse. I hope you enjoy, "The Cinematographer, the Box of Light, & Magic Hour!" Get the entire book at Amazon.com. Thanks!
