the night air was crisp, electric. the city glittered behind us in the rearview mirror, a world i had always known but never truly seen. valentino's fingers flexed around the wheel, steady, sure. the deep purr of the engine hummed through my body, coiling tight in my chest as i gripped the seat.
"this is reckless," i said, my voice barely steady. "i could die."
he glanced over, a slow, knowing smirk tugging at his lips. "you could also live."
i swallowed hard, fingers tightening. "i am living."
"nah, harvard." his gaze flicked to mine, sharp, unreadable under the dim dashboard glow. "you're following the rules, checking the boxes. but when's the last time you did something just because it felt right?"
i opened my mouth. closed it.
once, i would've had an answer. now?
"...i don't know."
his smirk softened, just a little, and something in my chest twisted. "then hold on."
the tires screamed as he punched the accelerator, and the world outside blurred into streaks of neon and night. the wind roared past, tangling through my hair, stealing my breath. i wasn't thinking. i wasn't planning. i was just feeling.
and maybe... just maybe... for the first time in my life, i was finally alive.
