Hello, my name is Matthew Whalen. I am a freelance and fiction writer living out of the Raleigh, NC area. My wife and I have one cat named Iris, and a dog named Poppy. I am new to substack, but have heard good things about it. I've been working on quite a few novels and screenplays over the years, but I've never, ever considered writing fan-fiction. I have nothing against it, per say, it was just not personally as interesting to me. However, while rewatching Christopher Nolan's Inception for the hundredth time, I was struck by a specific scene early on in the film. Dom Cobb goes to find a new chemist for his latest job. There he discovers an entire underground network of people who use the dream-sharing serums almost as a drug. And, well, that got me thinking. And as soon as I really put some time and thought behind the impulse, an entire character, story, and world began to unfold. So, without further ado, this is me telling the internet at large that I am officially going to upload my first chapter of my first-ever fan-fiction. I really enjoyed writing it, and I plan on releasing one chapter every week-maybe sooner than that if I can get through the chapters reasonably well. Anyways, long-winded and probably skimmed-over intros aside, I hope you enjoy the first chapter of The Extraction Equation by me, Matthew Whalen. Thank you for reading, and enjoy!

Unfortunately, a mishap caused him to travel back and forth in time, causing his journey across time to be called as escapade.
