Clove wants to volunteer for The Hunger Games for the fame and the fortune. Cato wants to volunteer to get Clove to finally notice him. But, as Cato watches Clove volunteer in despair, he knows that his aim has changed. He's no longer volunteering to be noticed by Clove. He's volunteering to protect Clove. The two struggle with their undeniable chemistry, knowing that in the end, only one person can win. Clove also knows that her Victor boyfriend back home will want to see her return. Clove and Cato were best friends since they started training but as they grew older and with the death of Clove's mom they've drifted apart, none has said a word to each other until now. Clove wants to believe that they can be friends again, maybe more, but with a sudden turn of events Clove is forced to do what she never imagined. She has to compete against Cato in the Hunger Games. Can she figure out her ever changing emotions in time to win or is her story destined to be just another bloody death in the Games?

She never wanted to go to the academy and train for the hunger games, but it was better than being at home and her father never gave her a choice about it. She met Clove Kentwell on her first day of training and they quickly became best friends. But when reaping day comes the odds certainly do not seem to be in their favor... It's Clove Kentwell's first day as a junior at Panem High, and the school may as well be a battlefield. She has to navigate parties, drama, crushes, (and detention) as she makes her way through her junior year; not to mention, deal with the crush she's had on Cato since middle school. Leaving her with no option but to train as hard as she could and hopefully win the games for her family. Clove never saw Cato for much more than just another player, but every time Cato saw Clove he felt something different - He felt something real. But what will happen when Clove catches the eye of Marvel? - The mature, hopeless romantic from District 1. This is my first fan fiction so it is probably bad. What happened to Cato and Clove before the games? Were they friends, lovers, enemies, or oblivious to each other? Clove has been through some major troubles, but what she experiences dealing with Cato can be considered one of her biggest obstacles

Marina Macken's road to the reaping as the District 4 tribute in the 74th Annual Hunger Games. The mysterious death of an important figure in the district leads to the gentle girl's false incrimination, and what better punishment than to rig the reaping and send her to the Games?
