Four small whispers can now leave rehearsal, the last cigarette has been ground to ashes. It was once important for us to kill some Negroes, no matter how many times they claimed to fear God― no matter how pretty their dime store dresses were― no matter how late they were for choir practice.

This is kind of a recount of my cleft story. For those of you who haven't the slightest idea as to what a cleft is, please allow me to tell you everything. I don't really mind if you don't like it, to be honest if I had the choice, I wouldn't have been born like this. But sometimes you have to embrace the worse things and make them become the best. **

When my little Evalyn was born, everything I thought I knew was out the window. I don't think that there was one thing that wasn't unusual, even during my pregnancy. I'd like to share the journey we had with her, with all of you. I'm not an expert nor am I saying it was the worst of cases or anything of that nature, just unusual. A combination what I call my "bad luck" and stressful but also wonderful circumstances, that brought us here today, about 3 years later. I would like to start out by saying that this is just me stating OUR story and that not every case is like this. There is a WHOLE lot more about Cleft and other similar conditions out there that are worse. I want to share this with others who, like me, had NO idea what Cleft really was. Some things written or said may make others uncomfortable or lead others to believe that I was a "bad mom" or was mean. Please do not think that, these are my HONEST and real, expressions and thoughts. This is based on real events and places though I may change some names to protect their privacy

"You are beautiful because your eyes are different sizes and your lisp gets in between your tongue and teeth every time you try to say 'something.' You are beautiful because the scar under your chin looks like a spider and because you have a massive fear of heights. You are beautiful because there never has been, nor will there ever be anyone else on this earth like you. Because your flaws are like fingerprints and should be embraced just like the free will that resides inside. You are not beautiful because of the symmetry in the little squares on your telephone, you are beautiful because 'you' are the only 'you' this place will ever know." -John C. O'Callaghan V.
