A Kaminoan scientist discovered that only nine barely survived the catastrophic event, but the clones were discovered to be altered by the surge, making them "defectives." As the squad of nine grow up together, they face harsh criticism from a narcissistic Kaminoan scientist, and bullying from their peers, specifically from one unit led by a clone named Talon.
