Three years ago, at a completely ordinary boarding school in Ohio, six young witches found one another and became a coven. Now, the girls have a thriving business selling minor spells and charms to their classmates at St. Basir's Academy. Other than the chaos of living in a house full of six very different magics and the sometimes clashing personalities of their wielders (along with the enchanted front door with a mind of its own), life is perfectly ordinary. Gretchen, the resident saltwitch, whose power lies in the area of crystals, blood, and salt, likes it that way. That is until the day two students from the St. Basir's boys' campus knock on their door. They're there to recruit the girls' magical services. Their roommate, who just so happens to be another magic-user, has gone missing, and signs point to his disappearance being magical in nature. But Gretchen and the other girls think the missing boy, Bellamy, might be more than just any ordinary magic-user. They think he might be the promised seventh member of their coven. Gretchen and her coven, along with Bellamy's roommates, pool their resources to concoct a plan to rescue him. If that plan just so happens to involve Gretchen allowing herself to be kidnapped by the same nefarious powers that took Bellamy, and if Gretchen kind of (accidentally, a little bit) falls in love with Bellamy along the way, well, that's just a day in the life of a Harkness House witch.
