The Cadel's only go back 2 generations so Adrian's father Arthur arranged an alliance with the Cadel's promising Adrien to Avery. Ok so the book is kind of arranged marriage trope. It also references books that I've read and the authors that wrote them such as the cruel prince, so folk of the air trilogy and the shatter me series. So it might have spoilers not major ones but little references to scenes in these books as Avery uses reading as an escape.
