You had been born in the early years of the 1980s, the only child of Quillish Wammy. Though brought into the world through a surrogate, there had never been a moment in which your father regarded you as anything less than his beloved daughter. Your earliest memories were not of ordinary schools or playgrounds, but of the quiet halls and endless studying at Wammy's House. Surrounded by gifted children and watched over by your father, you grew into a brilliant young girl, your intelligence blooming almost naturally beneath his gentle guidance.
It was during your childhood that your father brought a peculiar boy into the institution. Neither you nor Quillish Wammy knew the name he had been born with. He offered none. Instead, with complete certainty, he introduced himself by a single letter.
"L."
He was strange, even by Wammy's House standards. He spent countless hours buried in thought while your father fussed over him with an attention that often made you curious. There were moments when Watari would excuse himself in the middle of conversations, disappearing for hours simply because L had forgotten to eat, refused to sleep, or needed something only your father could provide. You noticed it all, though you never complained. There was something about the boy that drew people in, even when he seemed determined to remain distant.
Years passed, and as both of you grew older, your father finally sat you down for a conversation. His voice had been calm, as always, seriousness to it. "From now on," he had said with a warm smile, "I would like you to help me take care of L." And so you did.
