His cheeks were dusted pink and he was as stoic as ever. Yet, deep down, and deep in his eyes, the eyes that brought me solace, I saw disappointment, I saw rejection, and I saw sadness. His eyes spoke to me, telling me he wanted me to kiss him back, he wanted to show me what he felt because his words failed him. But he didn't need to say anything, his eyes told me everything. They told me he didn't leave me, they showed me the fire of anger and righteousness, and they told me one very important thing. One thing I knew all along, ever since that moment when we spoke in the classroom about Oikawa and (Bff/N), ever since he saw me in the art class or borrowed the green paint. I knew it when he chased me down in the park, and when I cried, and when we had lunch, and when he took me to (Bff/N). It was in every look I gave him, it was in that nagging feeling and need to look at him in art class, it was in the calmness of his voice. It was also in the way his voice pulled me out of my deepest pit, and in the way his name was the only thing I could and wanted to focus on in that pit. It was always there, but I never recognized it. That small voice at the back of my head was telling me this all along, but I didn't understand her language back then. I didn't understand. But I decoded it, his eyes helped me learn the language. His eyes told me he was the one. ~| *** |~ "Just don't run." He said, making me gasp and slap his shoulder. It was as if he thought exactly the same thing as I did. "That depends on you, Iwa. Don't make me run away." He smiled, pulling back away from me and held his pinky in front of me. "Pinky-promise?" I couldn't help myself anymore. I don't think I would be able to live without this dork. "Pinky-promise."

I've been playing by the dibs rule for as long as I can remember with Beth, my best friend of 16 years. It's been one of our many best friend traditions. We dibsed everything from the best spot on the couch to the last scoop of ice cream. But we're in our second to last year of high school now, and I'm more aware than ever of the differences between me and my best friend. I'm scared to lose her, but it seems like we've become different people overnight. One of the only things that remains constant in our friendship is our tradition of calling dibs. And whoever calls dibs first, get firsts dibs. It's as simple as that. Except suddenly it becomes a whole heck of a lot less simple. Because it doesn't really count when your best friend, who you've grown up with and shared everything with, calls dibs on the one thing that you actually really wanted... Right? Especially when that "thing" happens to be the new boy at school... ---

Addie Bradford moved to California for her Senior year to escape her traumatizing past. She hoped that she could just keep her head down long enough to make it through her last year of high school. She always considered herself to be nothing special, so she thought this would be easy for her. And it was for awhile--- until she met the school's bad boy. When Addie met Shane McCoy, it was the classic bad-boy-meets-good-girl scenario. She first saw him and immediately started crushing. I mean he's tall, dark, handsome, and mysterious, so who wouldn't? But then of course, Shane had to open his mouth and Addie's ten second crush immediately disappeared. She thought he was a conceited jerk and wanted nothing to do with him from then on. Unfortunately for Addie, the two continue to end up stuck together. But, Addie will soon learn that the two of them may have more in common than she first assumed. Can Shane help Addie open up and face her past? Or will both of their troubled lives just be a recipe for disaster?
