Domestic Violence within LGQBT Community Domestic violence LGBTQ is a severe problem in the lesbian, bisexual, gay, and transgender community. The percentage of LGBT people who experience violent or threatening relationships with their same-sex partners or ex-partners is about 25%, which is about the same as the percentage of heterosexual women who experience domestic abuse. Domestic Violence LGBTQ The issue is underreported, similar to opposite-gendered relationships. People who get abused frequently by their same-gender partner feel afraid of coming out about their sexual orientation or the nature of their relationship. The impact on the abused partner and the different types of abuse, such as emotional bullying, physical aggression, threats to harm the victim or other loved ones, social isolation, control of finances, and extreme jealousy, are just a few of the similarities between the domestic abuse experiences of LGBT people and heterosexual women. But there are a few characteristics specific to LGBT domestic abuse. Threatening to Reveal: It can be challenging for the abused partner to get help because LGBT groups are frequently hidden and rely on friends and relationships within the local community. This is worse for victims, especially those who are living in smaller towns and rural locations. Fear is the main aspect that stops victims from coming out of this unhealthy relationship. Domestic abuse LGBTQ hasn't received much attention, and there is hardly any discussion in the LGBT communities. If your friends, families or relatives experience domestic abuse, help them by contacting DV West for more help.
