They're weird, paranoid, honestly a bit intimidating, and they call themselves the "Akatsuki". Yeah, they're really strange, but I seriously can't bring myself to leave them. They're completely clueless, complaining about not having any "chakra", or "jutsu", it'd be cruel to just bolt. So...I'm stuck with them?

Shortly after escaping Orochimaru, being one of his experiments, you cross paths with a man named Pain. He told you he's been looking for you and wanted you to join his organization, the Akatsuki.
