Five hundred years ago, Avianor was one nation. Now, it is divided between the powerful Skyward Citadel, the humble Whispering Pines, the military Feathered Marches, and the mysterious Shattered Wastes. Alina Dove was born with the gift of healing-a gift the Citadel would gladly claim as its own. But Alina chose the Pines. She knows the laws. She knows the borders. She knows that disobedience means exile, and that no one who crosses the river ever comes back. But the more she learns about the world she was born into, the more she begins to wonder: What if the stories they told her were never the truth? Because sometimes, the greatest danger isn't crossing the border. It's discovering why the border was built in the first place.

The world is unraveling. Nations are at war, borders are burning, and the poorest countries are the first to be erased. With no military power and nothing left to lose, the government of Aurenth makes a final, forbidden decision: they create five children engineered to survive what the world no longer can. Raised together from infancy under the Pentarch Project, Lyra Vale, Ash Vale, Elara Marrow, Silas Crowe, and Kai Blaze are more than weapons-they are a unit. Trained, bonded, and burdened with abilities no one else possesses, they've grown up knowing only missions, strategy, and each other. Now eighteen, they're finally being deployed as Aurenth's last line of defense. At the center is Lyra Vale, the mind of the Pentarch-brilliant, guarded, and dangerously perceptive. Fighting beside her is her brother Ash, fast and fearless, the blade that strikes first. Silas Crowe moves in silence and shadow, calculating and unreadable. Kai Blaze burns bright and reckless, a force of warmth and destruction in equal measure. And holding them together is Elara Marrow, the shield-steady, empathetic, and impossible to replace. As global tensions escalate and the Pentarch is sent deeper into the heart of the conflict, cracks begin to form-between duty and morality, control and choice, loyalty and love. Secrets about their creation surface, trust is tested, and emotions long buried refuse to stay contained. Because the world didn't just make them to save it. It made them to see how much they could endure before they broke.

And behind that path walks Damira, the last light in a land swallowed by shadows. She is not alone in her pursuit. The Sleepless-a group of expert vampire hunters: Vin Warlock, Darry Louisiana, Julieta CarriΓ³n, and Eric Middleton-seek to join her, but Damira refuses to share her burden. This is just a piece of dystopian fiction that I wrote a few months back. I entered it in a competition and I'm actually pretty proud of it. Although the word limit was below 4 000 words so I had to rush the ending a bit. It's just a short story but let me know if I should expand on it a little more. I'd love to spend more time with this world.

No one knows what it's origins are or who made it. Who could have even imagine such a fantasy fairytale-esque quirk that would exist in-front of us in reality? Not everyone has what it takes to handle sorcery "the right way, and when sorcery is out open into the public eye, you are not guaranteed there would not be a single incident or two involving the use of sorcery no matter where you go. Best to not get involved in such matters, or you will be facing the consequences as an immoral being even worse than the face of a normal prisoner-better yet, not be a victim.
