{{This is a complete draft, however I am currently in the process of editing and revising this story daily.}} Commander Alma Smith has spent her life believing that every problem has a solution. That with enough training, enough discipline, enough control, nothing is truly beyond reach. She is about to encounter something that cannot be solved. "43 Hours" is a quiet and deeply intimate novel about the limits of control, and what lies beyond them. As certainty begins to erode, Alma is forced to confront not only her circumstances, but herself-her memories, her choices, and the fragile architecture of the person she believed she was. It is a meditation on isolation, identity, and the human need to find meaning in the face of the incomprehensible. For readers of literary and philosophical science fiction, it is an unforgettable exploration of what remains when nothing can be fixed-and what it truly means to endure.

This story, Black Bird, is for the Open Novella Contest 2026, inspired by prompt #37. It is a post-apocalyptic novella told from the perspective of Ruth, a five-year-old girl with messy pig-tails who appears to be the last surviving human in a world ruined by a virus. Too young to understand what ended civilization, Ruth survives by following a vulture she calls Black Bird, who loyally leads her to food and shelter. Though the bird is a scavenger by nature, it shows an unusual familiarity with Ruth, neither fleeing nor attacking, and seems to watch over her. As Ruth navigates this world, her bond with Black Bird becomes both her lifeline and her greatest mystery. Told in a child's limited, literal voice, this story explores survival and dependency, and the unfolding of Ruth slowly beginning to understand what Black Bird knows-and why it has chosen to stay.

"The Last Echo" is an epic tale that explores themes of sacrifice, legacy, and the ultimate choice between preserving one's own memory or saving a nascent universe. The story follows Kaelen, the last archivist of the Aethel civilization, as he grapples with an impossible decision in a dying universe. When he discovers a bridge to a new, infant universe threatened by a parasitic entity called the Weaver, he must choose between imprinting his civilization's legacy on this new reality or sacrificing everything to give it a chance to flourish on its own terms. The narrative is structured in four parts plus an epilogue: • Part 1: The Fading Light - Introduction to Kaelen and the dying universe • Part 2: The Bridge of Worlds - Discovery of the new universe and the Weaver • Part 3: The Weaver's Web - The moral struggle and decision to act • Part 4: The Last Echo - The ultimate sacrifice • Epilogue - The legacy that endures The story blends hard science fiction concepts with philosophical depth, exploring what it means to be remembered, the nature of selfless sacrifice, and the profound beauty of choosing to save others at the cost of one's own existence. I hope you enjoy this journey through the cosmos!

Some questions don't come quietly. They arrive in the middle of the night, heavy as rain, sharp as silence. Why do humans live? What is the purpose of existence? Is life a gift... or an obligation forced upon us? Existence is a dark philosophical one-shot that explores the cruel beauty of being alive-born without consent, raised under expectations, and trapped between the hunger for approval and the fear of meaninglessness. Through raw thoughts, haunting atmosphere, and emotional confrontation, this story dives into the uncomfortable truth: Life has no purpose... until you create one. A story for those who have ever stared into the dark and wondered if living is worth it.
