Amy Trevithick's husband mysteriously disappeared a year ago. She lives in a small fishing village, the place you would least expect from some extra-terrestrial occurrences. She goes on a quest to find him, but she finds more than she had bargained for.

A bet? Well, life is sometimes played as a bet between two or more individuals just to prove a point but in a bet, there is a winner and then a loser. Three good friends from childhood break up because of a bet. The pain hurt, and tears befall one of them being the female as she happens to be the center of all. When Tom and his adopted family receive a telegram from the United States Army Air Forces telling them that their brother James has been reported Missing in Action, Tom's life slowly begins to fall apart. Secretly, he and James are lovers, and in a society where being gay is still illegal, Tom has had to hide his relationship throughout the war and before it. Through a series of letters, Tom writes to James explaining his life, his love. He struggles to understand society and James' sister, who gave away their secret and caused the whole family to make a hurried escape across the USA. But James is still missing. The town is having its latest Queen For A Day competition, and a poor but humble young girl named Regina wants to sign up, but the rich, snooty girl of the village, Christi, hears this and wants to stop her. Can Regina successfully sign up? Can Regina win the competition?
