Kiowa and Anoki lock hands and stare into each other's eyes. They listen intently to Onendah, the medicine man, officiate their wedding. "Yours is a forbidden love. Because you are from a war tribe, Kiowa, your people will not let you marry this peaceful Hopi girl, Anoki. As Indians, you would be tracked and killed, but as animals, your tribes will never find you." Kiowa passionately kisses Anoki for the last time as a man. "It is our time. What I sacrifice now, I sacrifice for you. I will shed this mortal skin and skinwalk for you!" He smiles at Anoki as two wolf ears protrude atop his head, nestled amongst his black hair. A thick gray mane bursts from his chest. In an obtuse twist of his body, his muscles transform. Anoki screams as man turns to wolf. Though Anoki sees Kiowa's eyes turn yellow and fangs explode out of his elongating snout, she doesn't turn away. Every physical sense tells her to run. Every sense, except her heart. Anoki presses her hands to his furry cheeks, "This Indian world of ours can fall apart, but if I have you, I have everything. Without you, I may have everything this world can offer, but I would still have nothing. I will pay any price for this love, I will even skin walk with you."
