Cansada de tanta pressão, ela toma uma decisão impulsiva: fugir para o Complexo da Maré, no Rio de Janeiro, onde sua mãe mora. Na cabeça de Júlia, o morro seria um lugar de liberdade, festas, bailes de funk, amizades e uma nova chance de viver. Mas a realidade bate forte. Entre traficantes, maloqueiros, policiais, rivalidades e uma guerra que parece nunca ter fim, ela descobre que sobreviver ali é muito mais difícil do que imaginava. Enquanto tenta conquistar seu espaço em meio ao tráfico, às festas regadas a bebidas, às paixões intensas, ao amor, ao ódio e aos conflitos que dominam a comunidade, Júlia conhece pessoas que mudarão completamente sua vida - algumas capazes de protegê-la, outras prontas para destruí-la. Do outro lado da cidade, seu pai faz de tudo para trazê-la de volta, alimentando ainda mais uma disputa que coloca todos em risco.
