Monsters have always roamed our world. Long before society had words for them, they lurked in the dark-creatures that hunted humans and vanished into the night. For centuries humanity survived through fear, whispers, and desperate attempts to keep the monsters at bay. Then everything changed. A strange phenomenon began appearing across the globe: people started developing supernatural abilities known as **Quirks**. At first they were chaotic and uncontrolled, but over time these powers reshaped society itself. With Quirks came the rise of **Heroes**-individuals trained to protect civilians and maintain order. Their emergence pushed many of the old monsters into hiding, driving them into the shadows of modern cities. But not all monsters disappeared. Among them were the **Ghouls**, beings that looked human but survived only by consuming human flesh. Forced underground by both society and the new Hero system, they learned to blend into the population, hiding behind ordinary lives while hunted by special investigators and feared by the public. Now, in a world of flashy Quirks and celebrated Heroes, the quiet war in the shadows continues. Because some monsters don't want to destroy humanity... they just want to survive in it.

Y/N becomes lost in the forest while camping, and a ghoul, Mountain, finds them. They are brought back to a church where they are accepted and taken care of. As they learn about ghouls, Papas, and The Clergy, they begin to fall in love with Mountain. The main character (Y/N) will be written with they/them pronouns to be as inclusive as possible. --> Switches to AFAB reader with they/them pronouns in chapter 26 & onward. The story is not based on the people behind the masks! Only based on the characters (ghouls) portrayed onstage. NOTICE: I am not the best at staying consistent with publishing my story. And I did so, until I turned around and saw only forest, and then... I decided to go a little deeper. If I had time, I would walk all over it, with the faint hope that I would find something. Something different, something worthwhile. Something out of this world. But I knew I wouldn't find anything, just like I didn't find anything when I was a little kid, all those times... But still, I kept going. It was like my soul was pushing me on, but my brain knew there was nothing to look for. With every step, I thought, I should probably get back. But I only kept going. Now, I should turn back now. But my curiosity took the best of me. Just a little more. Just a little. Please. With all my might I wished for meaning. For something where my desire could feast upon. And it did. Quite literally."

His best friend Miles is now stuck dealing with Portland's magical underbelly. Soul harvesting cults, hipster necromancers, vape shop warlocks, and a growing glitch in reality that's swallowing ghosts like corrupted save files. He might be dead, but the game isn't over. It's just getting weird and Lex isn't the only ghost on the leaderboard.

Somehow this misfit child has friends though: Hideyoshi Nagachika, an innocent human. Nimi Nishio, a half ghoul like Kaneki, only much younger than he. Juuzou Suzuya, an investigator who keeps Kaneki's secret species in return for 'playing'. Kaneki may be stoic and nonreactive, but his life is the opposite of normal and calm. But perhaps that's because he's a half-ghoul. Nothing's ever good when you're a half-ghoul. Disclaimer: I don't own Tokyo Ghoul (:re)! But I do own Nimi! I don't, however, own the picture!
