ABOUT THE STORY
The Girl Who Kept Becoming is the story of a young Black girl growing up in Bakersfield, California, trying to figure out who she is while life keeps giving her new reasons to grow.
Between school, senior year, family, friendships, love, faith, and the pressure of figuring out her future, she learns that growing up isn't always about having the answers. Sometimes it's about making mistakes, getting your heart hurt, learning your worth, and choosing to keep going anyway.
Track becomes more than just a sport. It teaches her that when she's tired, she can still take another step. When she wants to stop, she can still keep moving. And when life gets hard, she can always find her way back to the starting line.
She dreams of becoming a nurse, traveling, making her family proud, and building a life bigger than anything she can see from where she stands now. But before she can become the woman she's dreaming about, she has to learn how to love the girl she is right now.
This is a story about loving deeply without losing yourself.
About holding onto faith when you don't understand the plan.
About carrying your hometown with you while dreaming beyond it.
About losing people, finding people, and discovering that some chapters are meant to end so better ones can begin.
Most importantly, it's about a girl who never stopped becoming.
Because she wasn't perfect.
She didn't have everything figured out.
She overthought. She cared too much sometimes. She got scared. She made mistakes. She loved hard.
But through every version of herself, she kept going.
And maybe that's what made her story beautiful.
She came from Bakersfield with a big heart, big dreams, and a long road ahead of her.
This isn't the story of who she used to be.
It's the story of who she's becoming.
