I first wrote this story when I was in the 8th grade after reading The Outsiders and falling completely in love with its world, characters, and heart. Like a lot of readers, I wasn't ready to leave Tulsa behind, so I created a story of my own. Years later, I found those old pages again and realized the feelings that inspired them were still there. So I decided to finally put it out into the world. I've grown up a lot since then, and so has this story. I rewrote scenes, deepened the emotions, and changed a few things along the way,including her name. But at its core, it's still the same story I dreamed up as a kid: about music, first love, heartbreak, friendship, and trying to find where you belong when the world has already decided who you are. This is a fan-created work inspired by The Outsiders. I do not own the original characters or source material, aside from my own original character and story additions. When the Music Started is for anyone who ever finished a book and wished they could stay a little longer.

Hello everyone! This is my Johnny Cade x y/n fanfiction. Just a little heads up, this story doesn't take place during the time that The Outsiders does. It's kind of like an AU where Johnny and Dally didn't die, but all the other events happened. We'll say this is like, 6 months after. Also, I know that S. E. Hinton wrote a few books that take place after and have Outsiders characters in them, but I haven't read those in a hot minute so this won't be consistent with those books. Sorry! I hope you enjoy!

Due to his parents having died eight months prior, his whole life has gone downhill, his brothers work constantly to provide for him and he's now stuck in Tulsa for longer. Ruby Fletcher has lived all around. Her big shot lawyer father works nationally, resulting in her having to move constantly. Ruby is ecstatic when told they'd be staying somewhere for longer than six months, little did she know the amazing but painful things Tulsa would bring her as she falls head over heels for a greaser boy. Can these young dreamers keep their love a secret in this 1960s romance story? Or will it all come crashing down?

As the title says The Outsiders from Steve's POV. Steve is one of my favourite characters in the book along with Soda and Darry. This fic will have a mix of both the book and movie. There will also be non cannon stuff I.e Steve's home life but aside from some made up stuff it's all cannon to the book.

Life is still tough for the greasers following the loss of their friends, but when Ponyboy is given an opportunity to publish his assignment, will he do it? Or will the gang change his mind? Ponyboy has to make the decision that could change the fate of the gang. This is my take on what could happen after the book comes to an end, read on to see what happens.
