After moving to Casttelle, Maine (widely known as one of the most racist towns in American history), Thomas and his mother, Melissa, begin searching for the origins of the town's deep-rooted hatred.
While Melissa investigates from the earthly side (through libraries, old newspapers, forgotten records, and the testimonies of its people) Thomas is drawn down a far darker path. Alone, he discovers a mysterious book that reveals Casttelle's past through supernatural visions. Through the book, Thomas learns the truth: the town's racism and its sick obsession with Halloween are not merely cultural, but the result of an ancient, supernatural entity known only as "Halloween".
With the help of Judith, a fifteen-year-old girl he befriends at school, Thomas will go beyond the limits of reason and fear to confront the entity itself-determined to destroy Halloween and free Casttelle from its eternal dominion, with help to Judith and the book.
This is the origin of Halloween.
