Elodie is the perfect Wife. She's loyal, obedient, she tolerates the Handmaid's, and she complete's her wifely duties. But there is something terribly empty about her life, and she longs for something more, though she doesn't quite know what. And then she meets Ava, the kind, soft spoken Martha that her husband just hired. Elodie finds herself draw to the woman, and they quickly become friends, and then Elodie does something much more dangerous. She falls in love. Caught up in the dangerous world of the Handmaid's Tale, where eyes are watching from friendly faces and there is a wall lined with corpses, Elodie must put her position as a high ranking Wife at risk for the chance of a life that really means something. (**this was an old school project, the assignment was to write something about the Handmaid's Tale, and I created this story. I found it and decided to polish it up, it got a little longer, whoops. In the colony of Meritt, young girls are poised to be virtuous wives at an early age. Through rigorous testing and isolation the girls are prepped and groom and for Clara, the day has come for herself to prove if she has what it takes to be an ideal wife or barren one.

A young Muslim woman must fight for her family, future, and right to exist when a hateful, fascist regime is elected to govern America. Author's Note: "A Light On the Sea" is a short 500 word story inspired by Margaret Atwood's "The Handmaid's Tale," for the #MyHandmaidsTale contest. The main character is named Noor, which means "light" in Arabic. This story is a work of fiction, but the hateful statements within the story are inspired by actual comments made by sitting politicians and pundits, which makes the story all the more chilling. I wanted to use fiction to show how harmful and dangerous this kind of rhetoric is -- and how quickly it can escalate. Genocide is a slow process. No holocaust begins with physical violence. It begins with the normalization of hate speech.

The Wives' Doctrine is a dystopian novel set in a world where women's primary value lies in their ability to bear children. With every passing day, Evelynn must grapple with the suffocating reality of her situation, finding brief solace in the friendships of fellow captives, like the fragile Naomi and the once-defiant Rebecca. As the pressure to conceive intensifies, Evelynn faces the terrifying prospect of what happens to those who fail. *The Wives' Doctrine* explores themes of oppression, control, and the fight for survival in a world that views women as nothing more than vessels for reproduction. With the ever-present threat of punishment, Evelynn must find a way to reclaim her life and dignity before the system consumes her entirely.

Mom warned me I would eventually sleep my life away. Why didn't I listen? .............. This is my 500 word short story inspired by Margaret Atwood's classic, "The Handmaid's Tale."

A dystopian novel following several characters in their plight to escape the wasteland. A new government has taken over, but is it deadly enough to eliminate the fighting spirits of Eiden, Tae, Scarla and Odette. The genetic faults. The hopeless causes. Perfectly hidden among a sea of mass produced life. If you hear the alarm; they have already caught you. Where do the boundaries and deceit end and their old lives begin?

This is a found poem, which was inspired by Margaret Atwood's novel "The Handmaid's Tale".

I'll mostly be based off the book, because I haven't seen the Netflix Series.

Glancing down the line of pink, I wonder if these questions barrage my sisters' minds. I wonder if they, too, feel drowned in the pink and terrified of the red.

We were a different story. Though the world was a hellish wasteland around us; though villages were burned to the ground in the search for Fertile; though the government was more corroded than an old battery; we managed to be happy. Through the oppression and destruction, we remained us. But I'm afraid that's about to change.

In a future where women's rights have been eradicated, resistance lives on in a woman strong enough to keep a secret, to pass on her carefully guarded knowledge to others, and to risk her life for the faint hope of freedom in the future...even if that freedom won't be her own.
