Hiccup Haddock III was sick and tired of his life. He was tired of getting pitied glances everywhere he went. He was sick of overhearing conversations about how ashamed his father must feel of him. But all that changed when he was given the privilege to kill a Monstrous Nightmare. He couldn't kill it, though. He wouldn't. He couldn't betray his only friend. The one being that didn't judge him. So he ran away. Ran away from his family and his home. Everyone thought he was dead, but when a mysterious dragon rider comes back to Berk with news, the visit doesn't go very well. The Berkians are Vikings; it's in their nature to be stubborn and they don't take too kindly to strange masked visitors that ride Night Furies. This is a how to train your dragon fan-fiction. It follow hiccup and Astrid right after defeating the red death how they got closer and eventually Astrid figures out she's pregnant. The fanfic follow the young couple figure out how to be parents. Hiccup would have to figure out how to tell his dad and he would be very anxious. Astrid would have to deal with some of the older Vikings (Mildew) backlash about her having a child so early. How would the gang react? How would Stoick and Valka react to being grandparents and how with the couple raise a child while dealing with threats like Dagur, Viggo, Drago and Grimmel.

With the Night Fury roaming the island, on the hunt for the Whispering Death, Hiccup is given one last chance to change the fate of his village, as well as find an unbreakable bond he doesn't realise he's been yearning for. ------------ I begun writing this years ago after the final season of Race to the Edge aired and for years I have been dying to finish it 😭 I really wanted to see how the events of Darkest Night would have gone down if it'd been given time to be more than a small "what if" scenario in a 23 minute Netflix episode. I won't follow everything that happened in the episode exactly, but I will pull heavy inspiration from it.
