For a moment, just a moment, the iron in his grip softened. His hand slid from my waist to my wrist, holding firm but no longer crushing. Then his other arm locked around my upper body, strong enough that escape was impossible. "Aurora," he said, his voice rough, "you cannot run from a bond like this." I shook my head violently. "I'm human! I'm not meant for- for you!" His chest rumbled behind me, a low, frustrated sound. "You are meant for me," he said, lips brushing the shell of my ear. "Fate does not make mistakes." Aurora Hayes, a human girl from a village called Eldermist, a remote settlement tucked beside the enchanted Blackpine Forest.
