Lucy White is a 16 year old girl that lives in Florida. She isn't normal, though. Ever since she was young, she has pretended to be someone she's not. To be deaf and mute. And the only people in her school that know her secret are her twin brother, Alex, and her best friend, Emily. When Danny, a boy in her class, starts to discover the truth about her, things fall apart and break. Will Lucy be able to avoid detection? Maybe she'll give in, after all, she is, as everyone calls her, 'Broken'. Florida is a haunted place. Not by ghosts in old mansions or monsters in the swamp, but by memory. By orange groves buried beneath subdivisions. By fishing camps erased by luxury condos. By retention ponds mourning forgotten wetlands. By old roads, old storms, old dreams, and old versions of ourselves. In twenty-four interconnected poems, Florida Gothic explores the strange soul of America's most contradictory state. Hurricanes and highways. Snowbirds and tourists. Alligators and developers. Disney castles and midnight grocery stores. The collection moves through the landscapes of modern Florida searching for the people who live beneath the postcard version of paradise. These poems are angry. They are mournful. They are occasionally funny. They are love letters written with clenched fists. Part social criticism, part environmental elegy, part spiritual meditation, Florida Gothic asks what happens when a place becomes both paradise and commodity. So my life right now? A mess. I just escaped out of some CRAZY weird containment and now I'm supposed to move on with my entire family dead and save the world with 4 other teens that I've never seen in my life. And I'm supposed to have some sort of super power. No, I'm not a superhero. But this is the story of how I became one. ((OOC: Okay so I stink at descriptions, bear with me, this story gets better I promise!))

I've lived on the Mississippi coast for 30 years. I've been through four or five hurricanes and countless tropical storms. Before Katrina came through, I thought, "If my house gets washed away, I'll just stay at my mother's house or my brother's house" - never thinking all our homes would be destroyed. But they were, so everyone in my family is now a refugee. On Friday night (Aug. 26), some of us boarded up our houses. Others in town were saying that they didn't want to "overreact" to the hurricane forecasts. But I was running around like crazy, yelling, "This is a (category) four!"

Ashleigh Kale has never been big on romance. She was, however, good at being every guys best friend. She was 'that' girl, quite content to friend zone any prospective candidate. Since, whenever it came to situations that were romantically inclined she became severely awkward with her tongue tied between her teeth and her brain on melt down. Ashleigh has always held a negative veiw of relationships. Only because of a riddled and dark past that she keeps buried, she chooses to avoid connection all together. Though Ashleigh's two siblings, her twin sister Aimee and their elder brother Blake, dont share her demons, they do support her in every way they can, as they all feel its effects deeply. However, when a sexy football player from a rival school starts to persue her with single minded determination, her usual manner of 'friend-zoning' guys doesn't seem to get through to him. Storm Devens is cocky, confident and down right frustrating as he forces Ashleigh to rethink her philosophies on love and her whole outlook on life changes when he shows her how to connect on a level she never thought possible. Her horrifying memories and deeper emotions are called to the surface in the hurricane that is Storm Devens. Ashleigh is forced to reavaluate the very foundation of who she is. Storm blew into her life with a force to be reckoned with, leaving her breathless and needing more... ***

Echo Bronze goes to N.E.R.D. camp. A special camp for smart girls. Meanwhile a hurricane is coming and the girls at camp are trying to help people survive the hurricane.

Bad move sunshine" Evelyn's parents had been top scientists, famous at SHIELD for their quick minds and intelligent thinking. They passed down their aptitude to their two sons and daughter, along with their legacy. Evelyn, however, never knew any of this because they were killed before she even learned her own name. Now her brothers are dead too, and Evelyn has returned to SHIELD to track down the murderers and bring justice to her family's name.
