Tessa is to marry Jem, but her love first fell upon the blue-eyed boy, and now she is unsure of what to do about it. She does not even know if she can help resolve the problem, which means that the situation will end with at least one broken heart. And she's sure that one of those hearts would, in fact, be her own.

The house was empty with only small sounds from the washing machine echoing into the soft walls. It was only the beginning of June and she had already planned everything out. Her bag was ready for flight and her ride was around the corner. With only one person knowing her plan, she was hoping everything would turn out okay. The day they come back to the London institute, they encounter things they have never had heard of before. A shapeshifter had moved into the institute, she speaks of a man named the magister, and clockwork creatures that seemed like unbreakable toys in the Magister's hands. What will they do? Were they trained good enough? Can they live to everyone's expectations? Or will they flee back to idris, abandoning everything and everyone once again.
