What if Catherine Morland was actually onto something? What if her Gothic novels had actually prepared her to encounter the atrocities of the real world? What if General Tilney's crimes were much worse than just being a snob and a heartless social climber? What if Northanger Abbey kept a terrible secret? Follow Catherine as she explores the Gothic Abbey and encounters witnesses, looking for clues. ************ This chaptered short story is a rewriting of Jane Austen's Northanger Abbey" I wrote while I was tutoring a highschool student and she had to write a detective story and she hated it and I proposed we do a "Catherine solves the mystery" rewrite and she was onboard and we ended up with her version and my version (this is my version). (I lost the end of my original text so I'll have to re-invent it...) Some of the dialogues are from Jane Austen's novel and/or Jon Jones's film adaptation but most of the text is a retelling (and departure from the original) in my own words. I watched the rose bush outside of my window; being thrown side to side sporadically as the gusts of the not-so-summer breeze took hold. My eyes fixated on the purest rose petals, clinging on to dear life to avoid being carried away half way across the country. Ruby-red, delicate, strong. What were they holding on for? To prove the season's impulsive burst of turbulence wrong. To prove the wind wrong all together. Determined to prove everyone wrong. I am no bird. I am a rose. I am the thorn that pricks you back into reality. I am strong. I am determined. I am not insane - like they say.

In which i catalogue what happened to me the first time I tried to pull an all-nighter in order to finish my work in Middle School. PLEASE NOTE:-there is swearing in this story. I wrote this freshman year of high school-only a year after the events of the story, i've just gone over it and reviewed it a little so as to make sure the writing wasn't too subpar, but wow was this interesting to go back and re-read! I hope you enjoy it as well.

This is a first, very rough, draft of a modern-day Jane Eyre with the working title "Moorland Hall", which I began during NaNoWriMo 2010. Got stuck after 17k words and haven't written any more since then. There is a part of it which in part is polished a lot more in comparison (the meeting in not-Hay Lane), because that part was written as part of a course in creative writing, and it went through about five re-writes, whereas the rest ... well, the rest I haven't even read since I wrote it! I stopped writing because I just got stuck with the house party. As I was writing, I was bored and then it dawned on me that one of the reasons for being bored was because a house party is so NOT modern. You can't have people (even fashionable, rich people) go off to someone else's for a couple of weeks and then have them stop by for a couple of weeks. It felt completely off, and at the time, I was stuck trying to think of something to use instead that WOULD work in a modern setting, and ended up just shelving the whole thing instead. Anyway. Feedback is much appreciated, even though it's just a rough first draft so there is a lot to be desired. Plot is one, checking chronology with the original another. I was also thrown off a bit because I messed up one day, jumping ahead of the plot.
