Friends come, friends go, but why do they have to leave? Why do friends abandon you? Do they plan it? Or does it just happen? Some people lose friends because of relationship dramas, some because of arguments, or they simply drift apart. But her. She lost her friend from a story she could never get out of her mouth.
She couldn't; it didn't make sense to her. Even as she grew older, she still didn't understand. Every time she thought about it, her mind raced. He was the only one who wasn't found. His body was the only one that was never recovered. But how? Had he escaped? Escaped the killer who slits people's throats just for fun, who breaks into strangers' homes just for thrill?
He couldn't have; it was impossible that the monster had spared him, and even more impossible for him to get away. But if that wasn't true, where was his body? The body of the boy everyone had given up on, the boy everyone had stopped looking for. The boy everyone had forgotten.
Everyone except her.
She was the only one still looking for him. Every day, she laid roses in front of the abandoned house and prayed that she would see him again. Then it would all have been just a dream; he would have been playing with a ball in the yard as usual, and his mother would have been visible through the kitchen window, preparing dinner. But that never happened; she never saw him again.
The boy everyone would forget, but not her. Not as long as she wore the bracelet he had given her. The gold bracelet she took everywhere.
Some people thought she wore it simply because, why not? Others thought it was a toy for her; some didn't even notice it, but it was none of those things. For her, it was a reminder that he was still out there... And that he was wearing the silver bracelet that matched hers, trying to come back to her.
