Gawin C. never imagined that buying a novel sharing his name would drag him into the worst possible fate.
In Heartache, the villain who bears his name is a twisted brother who stands between the heroine, Saran, and the "noble" Joss W.; destined to throw himself from a balcony in the name of an impossible love.
Disappointed by the plot and feeling pity for the poorly written antagonist, Gawin scoffs at the story... until a mysterious voice offers him a deal: "Finish my story." A sharp pain in his chest tears him from reality and throws him into the body of the hated villain.
In this world, love is not a choice: when you fall, a tattoo in the shape of a moon appears on your skin. If your love is reciprocated, the mark glows and grows in unison with your partner's. But if it is not, the moon turns red until it becomes a total eclipse-and its bearer dies of a heart attack.
And Gawin realizes in horror that the body he now possesses bears that very Moon.
As Gawin accesses the villain's memories, he uncovers the truth: that man wasn't hateful out of cruelty, but because his unrequited love for Joss had doomed him from the start.
When he comes face to face with the story's hero, he remembers the true mission left to him by the original owner before he faded away:
"If you want to return to your world... I don't ask you to make him love you. Make him feel a pain as deep as mine... but don't let him die."
Caught between fate, redemption, and a love that was never meant to exist, Gawin must defy the cruel rules of a world etched upon his skin.
