After losing Lois in a planetary war, Clark finds himself trapped in a well of emotions he never believed he was capable of feeling. Consumed by grief, the Man of Steel is lost between reality and dreams where he is still by Lane's side. Overcome by the guilt of failing to save his beloved, he begins to doubt his metahuman abilities and whether he is truly humanity's hero... This questioning corrupts and drains him until he meets Lara.
Lara, for her part, is not much different from Clark. Hailing from a destroyed galaxy-of which she holds vast memories of her family and friends-she was adopted by a farming couple in Kansas. With superhuman abilities and psychic powers, she feels displaced in a world full of strangers who can never truly know her. Even surrounded by loved ones, Lara finds herself increasingly gripped by solitude, dreaming of the day she might wake up back in her home world, until she meets Clark.
To Lara, the dark-haired, strong man with blue eyes is much more than a friendly face; he is hope, the flame that reignites her, the memory of something that was lost. As for Clark, the woman with dark hair and rosy lips is more familiar than she appears; she is the reflection of what he had lost, a blurred memory of resilience and nostalgia all at once-the representation of his most cruel and beautiful dreams.
