The Toons travelled to New York City and went to the Central City Zoo. They meet Alex, the content lion, Melman, the skittish giraffe, Gloria, the resolute hippo, and Marty, the zebra who feels bored with zoo life and dreams of exploring the wild. When they escaped from the zoo to find Marty, they ended up to be sent to Madagascar. After the shipwreck, the animals find themselves on a small island of Madagascar. They meet King Julien XIII and his fellow lemurs, who are constantly threatened by vicious carnivores called fossa. As they struggle to live in the jungle life, Alex and his friends have to find a way out of this island and get back home.
