In this alternate reality, Master Fu is angered by his elders' reaction to his losing the miraculous. His kwami Wayzz never seems to let him forget his mistake. So he decides to recruit a new 'hero' just to show them up. The kwamis in Gabriel's care find out, and confront Gabriel about the need to change guardians before he ever has a chance to begin his quest as HawkMoth. Taking to his new duty, he sets out to find two new heroes to face off against the new villian in town. Oh, and Marinette gets the butterfly miraculous. Who knew?

I actually haven't even finished the last book-A Court of Silver Flames-so that should explain the absence of some characters as the timeline continues.
