"Uncle" is an African man with a prominent title that lacks inherent self-respect. "Uncles" are African men that prey on little girls instead of protecting them; they are African men that carry out acts of domestic violence; they are African men that disrespect women without a care. "Uncle", is an African man that is driven by toxic masculinity; a man that thinks he is entitled to every woman's body. Unfortunately, our African Aunties remain dormant and refuse to speak up about these precarious situations and in turn, they fail to put an end to these toxic behaviors. Instead, the blame is thrusted upon the victims and our African Aunties vehemently defend these African "Uncles".

Love. It's never as easy as the books and films make out, right? Lillian and Richie are about to embark on their first weekend together. She's always found relationships difficult, and he has a troubled past. Sex, getting to know each other and sharing secrets-will this fledgling romance be strong enough to survive what we bury inside ourselves? Is passion enough for a lasting relationship? Read on to find out... This is a work of fiction. Names, characters, places, and incidents either are the products of the author's imagination or are used fictitiously. Any resemblance to actual persons, living or dead, businesses, companies, events, or locales is entirely coincidental. ©Emma Baird 2018

From the dismal suburbs of Cleveland, Ohio, five unconventional strangers meet on board a train headed through vast grasslands and forests towards the historic, towering city of Montreal. Each masters of their own differences and states of mind, they find no solace in one another nor in anyone else --- in nothing but their one goal; the money prize promised to the one stranger who excels above all. When their train halts abruptly in the illusion of a crash amidst the wild wilderness of Pennsylvania, the opportunity to claim the money prize through chivalry tugs and pulls at each and every one of them --- but soon enough, an entanglement of murders, underground criminal rings, wretched relationships, and twenty-first century realities traps them in what is an eye that has always, and almost forever been watching them all along.

"Roma, why is your project entirely on ones?" "I wanted to." The professor looked at me. "There were a few parts where you could have put it on twos or threes. I appreciate your dedication, but it must have been very inefficient." "I wanted it on ones. It looks better in my opinion." "It this industry, time is money. I'm pretty sure you've heard that many times before." "Yes. I am highly aware of that. But life is too short to live only on every other frame. I want to make every one twenty-fourth of a second count." I thought I was going to receive another lecture, but she only smiled at me. "I'm looking forward to seeing your future projects, Roma. This was truly remarkable." ~~ So I wanted to write a romance novel because what I've been writing recently have been dark and sad. I combined my life (animation) and my love (watching figure skating), personified them and made them fall in love. Those two saucy wenches are called Roma (animator) and Elspeth (figure skater. Maybe future US Olympic team member?). There will be short stories in here too, (what Roma creates as an animator) so if you don't wanna read those, just skip them. They're labeled clearly. Should disclaimers go here? Yeah sure. Disclaimer: I don't know how to figure skate, so if I offend anybody with background details... well, then leave.

This is a collection of works dedicated to those who struggle with letting their demons have a spotlight. If you are reading this, know this was very hard for me to publish. I have my own demons, and I've let them flow into these works to say that you're not alone. To inspire others to at least open up to the best friend. The one thing in the world that will always listen. A piece of paper.
