The series follows the reign of Sultan Süleyman (r. 1520-1566), known in the West as Suleiman the Magnificent. At age 26 Suleiman takes the throne. During his reign he gathers many sons and one daughter. Only one son may take the throne (not necessarily the eldest). During his early reign a concubine called Alexandra (Hurrem) catches his eye and sets his works on fire. Historically Hurrem is one of the most powerful and influential women of the Ottoman dynasty. Please comment if I say anything wrong. I will try my best to keep personal opinions of characters at bey. But as you will read on it is difficult not to take sides.
