When his new lab partner Max invites him to join the Hellfire Club, he expects chaos he can't handle. What he gets is a group of friends who play Dungeons & Dragons in a club down the hall from the library, and a girl named El who sees him in ways no one else has. As Mike learns to open up and find his place among them, he discovers that being quiet doesn't mean being alone and the best stories are the ones you build together. A Mileven slow burn AU.

Mike Wheeler is used to people liking him. Eleanor Hopper definitely does not. She's sarcastic, impossible to read, and somehow always ready with an eye roll whenever he speaks. So when Mike needs a fake girlfriend to survive the world's messiest breakup, El should be the worst possible option. Instead, she says yes. Now there are rules, public appearances, accidental jealousy, way too much hand holding, and a growing problem neither of them seems willing to talk about: maybe pretending to be in love would be easier if they actually hated each other.

Two years after the world believed Eleven had died, Mike Wheeler still feels her presence. No proof. No answers. Just a promise he can't let go of. Mike doesn't know how to deal with his new feelings for Will. He can't figure out who he likes: Will or Eleven. He tries to approach the situation with Will being gay and he tries to do the "right thing", but many things could happen from this. Many things go down between Will and Eleven, and some repeats of tragic events are in store for them. Will Mike stick with Eleven, and just lead Will on, or are his feelings genuine?
