The novel is written in third-person, and the prose is simple and straightforward, yet evocative. The story is told from the perspectives of "Jake" and "Rose," alternating between the two characters. The setting is modern-day, but there is a touch of magic and fantasy woven into the story. There are moments of humor and lightness, as well as moments of darkness and introspection.
