Their world is one of close knit family bonds, challenges, comfort, and ice. Rosalie is the second born child of the Carpenter family, and the oldest girl. With extreme intelligence and determination, Rosalie has her life completely planned out. After attending university and taking business classes she also became a certified ASL and French interpreter. Carter is the third born child of the Beckman family. Born deaf, Carter had to overcome extreme adversity to accomplish his goal of being a professional hockey player. After being drafted 22nd overall in the NHL draft he finds himself attending his third year of university before signing an NHL contract. When Rosalie is hired by Yale University to be an ASL interpreter she is assigned to interpret for Carter because of her background with hockey and business classes. The unlikely pair form a relationship that slowly goes past purely professional as they find their way through each other's worlds.
