My NaNoWriMo project for the year. Unedited. A comedy that doesn't take itself as a comedy. A tale of 14 characters and their relationships. A story of power and personal problems. A lesson for each person: What you want isn't always what God wants. Bristol Wilcox was just on routine monitor duty. As a rookie, that was what he did. Sometimes he'd pick up portals in the sky-- nothing big. But tonight's portal spit out a humanoid creature that fell to the ocean in a flash of light green light, and he finds himself thrust into his first mission. Fiona is a young but jaded agent who has had her share of fieldwork. A couple years ago, she had her first training mission with a rookie. The rookie died. The deceased was Fiona's cousin. For two years, under the good graces of her boss and friend Remington, she's avoided training work-- but tonight she finally has to face her fears and take Bristol under her wing. Korlik had always been a little out of place. Always inferior to her older brother, Torren, never really matching the ideals of her home. She has this feeling that the whole world is a little bit out to get her. When she discovers why she's out of place, however, that belief becomes reality, and tonight she is cast to earth from the place that had been her home for all her life. Christopher and Gabriel fought hard in the Korean war, rising to special ops. As they take on a mystery scientist that may be Communism's biggest asset, they begin to realize what they've really gotten themselves into. Stacy is an alcoholic mother. David is the father of their toddler. Lulu is the Thai trans woman he cheats with. Maybe that's a good thing? "The Out" is a complete novelette. So the beginning may be clunky, but it picks up around chapter 3. Thank you for bearing with me.

Whether or not Theodore Aspen (Theo, to his few friends) wanted to get dragged into the conflict between his old home, Terra, and his new one, Earth, that doesn't matter. He thought that by becoming an exchange student to Earth with his lupine best friend, Alaina, he would be able to leave his past as an orphan behind and find a new family. The second part happened. The first didn't, and now he's going to find himself on the front lines of the war that he wanted to flee, and it's all due to a few mistakes that he made (mostly, not realizing that his principal on Earth wasn't quite human; no, Mister Marlboro likes Camels, hates Terrans, and oh, wants them all dead. He's going to try all he can to make sure that that happens, and it's Theo and co's job to make sure that it doesn't.) They'll have to stay alive first, but so far so good, thankfully. Then again, though, you never know. After all, as the saying goes, luck is never on a fox's side... Rating: PG-13 for coarse language and crude humor. Thanks for 1K reads!
