The box gained more speed and the sirens grew louder. Red and green lights flashed above my head and I saw the ceiling getting closer. The box screeched to a halt, barely avoiding crashing in to the ceiling of the tunnel I was in. I sat in silence, my heart racing. The light went out and I was surrounded by darkness. "Hello? Is there anyone there?" Gears squealed and groaned, and the ceiling began to open. A light poured in from the widening crack, and I covered my eyes instinctively, crawling back until my back hit a wall. The doors opened fully and I heard voices. "What is it?" "Move out of the way, shuck-face! I can't see!" "Is it another person?" "Two Greenies in two days!?" "I think it's a girl!" "You're crazy, slinthead! Why would they send a girl?" Then a more authoritative voice silenced the remarks. "Move, ya shanks! Lemme get in there to get 'em out of the bloody Box." I heard a thud and the box swayed. The footsteps came closer to me and I uncovered my eyes. A boy looked down at me, his brown eyes wide in surprise. "Bloody hell! It's a girl!" He said and stepped closer to me. I pressed myself back against the wall. Surprised shouts came from above. "Why the shuck is there a girl?" "Who are you? And where am I? Where did you take me?" I shouted and pushed myself farther away from him. "The name's Newt, Greenie. Welcome to the Glade."

Before the maze and the Glade came to be what we know today, things were different. Friendships were different, feelings and grudges only grew with time. But WICKED was never good. As Ella dropped herself into the box, intent on saving her friends, she held a secret - one that could possibly result in the downfall of WICKED. It turns out that the Flare was only the beginning, and the maze trials were originally for a completely different purpose. "We made it out of the Maze, but at what cost?" ~ Ella, The Gladers Sand. The world was blanketed in a fine layer of sand. Everywhere you looked, the yellow particles coated the ground, shining bright and hot in the searing sun. The glare from the sun was temporarily blinding, making white spots dance before my eyes as I climbed out of the stair well. The sand was hot to the touch, each step I took feeling as though I was walking on lava. I tugged the scarf made of a torn pillowcase tighter across my face while the wind hurled sand at me, as if it was telling me to go back before it's too late. The air was so dry my lips quickly became cracked like old parchment paper. The others followed me closely, all of them shielding their eyes from the bright sun and holding their water bags close. "Where do we go now?" One of the boys whose name I didn't know murmured. "We go where they sent us. What other choice do we have?" Thomas said. Newt frowned. "So, we go to our deaths. Time has passed, life goes on but still she can't suppress her emotions; the loneliness she feels without him. So she turns to writing, Frida writes Newt a letter everyday as a way to keep him close. A way for her to escape reality and not face the truth about the fate of the blond British boy.
