When I was in middle school, I couldn't talk. I could talk at home, but not in school. When I was in high school, I could barely talk. I could talk at home, but I couldn't talk in school unless someone else talked to me first. I didn't know I had an anxiety disorder called Selective Mutism. So, this is my experience.

This is a travelogue/memoir through space and time, from the seaside resorts of Whitley Bay and Tynemouth and the shipyards of the river Tyne in my childhood years of the 1950's and 1960's, to the 19th century coalfields of County Durham and on to the smugglers and coastguards of the far north east coast. I enlist the help of my ancestors, my genetic memories and a host of characters encountered on the way to help me discover if my northern blood sings to me of home. It is a light, humourous adventure, with a sprinkling of existential thoughts for good measure. Comments in the margins are welcome, and if you like it please do vote!

Everyday other people talk to us about how important our parents are to us, but no one talks how important are children to their parents. You might be a parent or not, but this doesn't matter. Everyone should know what a child is in fact. And be aware of everything that happens to a child around you, so look at this book. Not just formal advices about children to parents, but there are more and more things in it. It will put you in deep thoughts after every chapter... How are you created? What are you? What behavior do you have? What happened during you were growing up? Children are not objects or toys, for us to pass time by entertaining ourselves, they are children. There are your past. There are you. A book by a student of a Medical school at the same time an assistant in the Pediatric part.👨⚕️ ➡️Futured in @nonfiction

"This is Lyla Green. She is 16 years old, tall, and has long brown hair. She is pretty shy but very caring and creative." This is how a person would describe me normally. The usual. General facts, appearance, and personality traits. "This is Lyla Green. She is...weird. She does strange stuff with her voice and body, it's like she's crazy." This is how a person would have described me when I was 14 years old. When I discovered I had Tourette and had tics. This is what they saw at first glance, and they never bothered to look closer. If they had looked closer, if they knew me, they would have noticed that I am the same person described above. Just with tics. Do I change that much? No. I am just a bit different. A movement there, a sound there. Something out of the ordinary. Something you don't see everyday. Something new. That's what scares people. Based on real events. *COMPLETED*

I wrote these short value statements to help myself focus on the rewards of making art, and minimize discouragement. The simple values presented here are about intellectual and emotional honesty with oneself and others. These values are at the core of achieving satisfaction in the pursuit of art, whether it be visual, musical, lexical, or performative. --- 350 words

'Moodling' - it's all about mental doodling. This time it's looking at and loving many so-called 'material' things in my life. Read about my much beloved possessions, and try to decide what you would choose to take with you if disaster threatened. I think I would run around like a chicken with its head chopped off, trying to decide - and finally take nothing (or something perfectly ridiculous).

Why be the sheep, when you can be the wolf? Seventeen-year-old Martha escapes from the brutality of an arranged marriage into the sanctuary of the convent of St. Mortain, where the sisters still serve the gods of old. Here she learns that the god of Death Himself has blessed her with dangerous gifts-and a violent destiny. If she chooses to stay at the convent, she will be trained as an assassin and serve as a handmaiden to Death. To claim her new life, she must destroy the lives of others. Martha's most important assignment takes her straight into the high court of Brittany-where she finds herself woefully under prepared-not only for the deadly games of intrigue and treason, but for the impossible choices she must make. For how can she deliver Death's vengeance upon a target who, against her will, has stolen her heart?

Dear Little Seed is a letter to my younger self when I was going through the hardest time in my life in which I was struggling to cope with the loss of a loved one. I want this letter to show others that there will be times when life seems hopeless, but those are the moments where you can grow. Think of it this way, a seed can't grow without dirt. Special thanks to @--emma for helping come up with this title and for being with me through this portion of my life. Entry for #13ReasonsWhyContest Thanks to @BookChook for the cover art on the first chapter!
