Lanae is pissed. Shipped off to go live with total strangers for the summer, she's less than thrilled, not to mention the complete lack of Nutella in her new life. Throw in some arrogant beach boys, a deathly fear of drowning, and a nickname that could make even Jesus commit murder and you've got yourself one hell of a summer.

Annalise Thompson is a smart, hardworking teenager who just moved into her deceased great aunt's house with her little brother Israel. Her wish for a quiet senior year was interrupted when she got into a car accident with Chase Black, and it is COMPLETELY his fault. Chase is the son of a successful businessman, who is also their school's principal. Taking fault for the damages, Chase drives her to school and shows the new student around. Chase would be chauffering Annalise until her car is repaired, but he didn't expect a relationship to form so easily. His past has turned him into the school's player, and it wouldn't be long before she finds out that identity and won't want anything to do with him. Or, at least he thought that's what he thought was going to happen.... Annalise, on the other hand, has a lot of secrets in her own closet. When she first met Chase, she wasn't sure what she saw in his eyes but it had intrigued her. It becomes easy for herself to be drawn into the mystery that is Chase Black. Will their pasts catch up with them? Is this relationship possible or will this connection be lost? . . . "Who wouldn't want to be with her? She's so oblivious to everything around her, the attention she gets from the guys already. She probably doesn't even realize she's a free bird. And then someone would eventually waltz in and make her his. The thought angered me. Her being a free bird doesn't make me any happier. I didn't want her to be a free bird, because I wanted her to be my bird."
