Daleyza has slain hundreds of monsters. When the land falls to disease and famine, and beasts forgotten and feared alike arise, she slays hundreds more. In a distant Kingdom, hunger, disease, despair, and death reigned. People lost hope for a better tomorrow, in which they wouldn't have to worry about escaping and hiding from the creatures that emerged from the darkness. Many called them the Enlightened Ones, others called them Purifiers, but generally, they were known as the Burning One's. A creature that once was human, but now did not resemble them.

The land has been ravished by disease and famine. Creatures who were once thought to be extinct or imaginary have risen from the shadows, and the humans are now the prey. Famished and afflicted with the Sickness, a group of humans on the run seek shelter from the creatures that pursue them inside an abandoned barn. In a world in which legends come true Kaila may be the only hope. Chaos reigns all over the world. Fantastic creatures appear one after another making a normal life impossible. No news, no internet. Besides some occasional radio reports, everyone hast to fight for themselves. The 14-year-old Kaila gets separated from her family but her experiences seem to be somewhat different... You're a monster, a beast." Avery croaks. She wants to yell, make him hurt as soundly as he had hurt her but the fight in her dwindles. Fear sparks up instead, it flows through her blood and reaches its target, her mind scatters, scrambling into memories. She sees herself in her famished household and she finds peace in it. She wants to go back; she craves Anna's warm embrace, seeks to walk through the empty hallways of her abandoned house. Avery longs for familiarity.
