A much-hated man is found dead, his face twisted into a rictus of horror. Young Inspector Visser can't stand the sight of blood or death, so this case was destined to be a struggle, even before a storm hits. The death occurred in an isolated boarding house on Pluvierstraat, The Hague. Fighting nausea as he examines the body, Visser grudgingly concludes that the death is murder by poison. Which of the motley group of suspects is the killer? The blind woman? The practical jokester? The Italian ex-convict? The English bookie? The scarred railroad engineer? Or could it be the pretty piano teacher? Visser orders them all to stay inside the house as he completes his time-consuming police work. The confinement becomes real when a storm strikes, cutting electricity and telephone. Clues mount and tensions rise, and the murderer among them could kill again. The more clues Visser unravels, the closer he comes to becoming the next victim. ---- I tried to channel Agatha Christie a bit. Okay, more than a bit. This story was longlisted in the 2020 "Open Novella Contest," and won 2nd place in the 2022 Punk Rock Awards, Mystery & Suspense category. Comments welcome!

Violet's life is chaos. When she's not dealing with the chaos at home, she's dealing with the chaos of being bullied at Gotham Academy. More importantly, she wants to disappear so nobody - particularly her crush Dick Grayson - wouldn't notice her. When she is finally able to, she finds her life turned completely upside down. Disclaimer - I don't own The Incredibles, Teen Titans or Young Justice. This story is written for Open Novella 2020. The prompt I choose was number ten, or "the new kid is bullied relentlessly until they discover they actually have a quite unique and unexpected talent". Story is also a spin off of my Beyond the Night fanfic series.

"He lived like a dead tree in a graveyard." "A Storm On The Mountain" is nominally about Aanav, a young boy who flees the portrait of a family and finds refuge on a hill where he befriends a shepherd who wears goat-skin-trousers. Still, his chaotic childhood becomes a haunting figure that reflects the silence of his present. Profoundly delicate with arresting imagery, the story narrates a broken heart, who brings these shattered pieces onto a hill and tries to make a very unperfect mended heart. While out on the hunt, self-confident vampire Ashton for once ends up being the hunted. After being accidentally captured and almost killed, he finds himself indebted to the black witch Elizabeth, who has a pact with a demon and is on a hunt herself. When her old coven gives her a task that may redeem her from her past misdeeds that cost the lives of innocents, Elizabeth calls in her favor, and recruits Ashton to help her find out why more and more witches from both black and white covens are going missing. Thrown into a conflict between forces as ancient as magic itself, the two have to learn to work together quickly, while old secrets and promises of the past hamper their mutual trust. But soon it turns out that the pacts that bind them both might also tie them to each other, and their encounter might have been not one of chance, but one of fate. _____ I decided to give the ONC a shot again, and revive a short story from last year... and also use this opportunity to foray into another genre this time. This will be my first paranormal/fantasy/gothic horror story, and if nothing else it's supposed to be a fun little writing exercise to get me back into a creative mood after quite a long break from writing :) Since it's gonna be a WIP throughout the ONC and I want to spend more time on "explorative" writing rather than getting lost in in-depth planning, this story will probably be subject to numerous changes and edits, but I hope you'll enjoy nonetheless!
