Steph needs to connect the dots, and fast. She might not have found herself out there, but she sure found something. And now? It's coming for her.

This résumé should be impressive, were it not for the fact that he hung up his habit as soon as he had the chance, deserted the battlefield, and now wanders from town to town like a fugitive from justice. But, in any case, what are these but irrelevant details? On this occasion, the road has brought him to San Cipriano dei Monti, a small village over which rumors hang about a monster: a vampire of uncertain origin who has been threatening for months to drink the blood of innocent children. Combine a mountain filled with rugged orcs with a mysteriously arrived shop serving delicate cups of tea. Could this be the start of a revolution? **** On Orc Mountain, there is nothing but dirt, smoke, and backbreaking labor in the mines. There are no colors, no sun, no breaks for rest. There is definitely no tea. That is, until a mysterious tea shop appears in the orcs' domain. Glimmering in blue and pink, it stands out against the rugged backdrop. At first, the hardened inhabitants of the mountain are understandably leery about the malpositioned shop, wondering how it got there and why. Lava, a dedicated supervisor at the mines, takes it upon herself to investigate the suddenly-arrived business. Stepping inside, she meets Jasper, the bubbly fairy shopkeeper, who offers her a fragrant brew. Once Lava takes a sip, the sweet yet bitter taste pulls her in, making her clamor for more. Soon, all orcs are hooked on tea, but something sinister is brewing under the surface. When Lava catches Jasper conducting a secret meeting in a backroom, the true purpose of the tea shop is revealed. Soon she is forced to choose between her newfound passion for tea (and Jasper) and her dedication to the mountain's mining operations. *** Legends & Lattes x Shrek *** An ONC novella using prompt #15: A mysterious tea shop suddenly appears and you can't help but wonder: what's its true purpose, and why does it seem so important?

Alma 751 learned to read and write before the Great Uprising of 2103, when WorldKOR restored order to its territories and began to eliminate literacy after the Lost War and the Punishment. She works as one of the lowest ranks of Common Tech: scribe, purging lost and secret libraries and other book slums of contamination lest the blessed illiterate are defiled. She ensures the materials are destroyed beyond repair. Like all scribes, she is watched to ensure she does not teach the blessed to read and write or learn forbidden teachings by hearsay and become irrevocably contaminated. Alma hides from KOR her activities with the underground group, Libre, which rescues books and other forbidden material for the glorious day when their world will read again. Alma realizes she is closely watched by WorldKOR Tech Police but doesn't know why. WorldKOR does not know her two secrets, kept from everyone, even her husband and family her entire life. Only Alvin, her blind brother taken by WorldKOR to purge Braille readers, knew them, and insisted she keep them secret before he was taken to the Museum of Congress. The purification level is estimated at eighty-seven percent when WorldKOR announces Project Cleanse, a ten-year plan designed to replace scribes and other low-level readers and writers with communication bots within ten years. Project Cleanse starts on 1/1/18, formerly January 1, 2121. Alma knows its time to leave WorldKOR North America, if she can escape her watchers and find freedom in Brazil.
